what we do
Platform 51 Northampton
Platform 51 Northampton is based in the town centre but we work at children’s centres and schools throughout the county.
Platform 51 Northampton is the only project to offer such a wide range of women-only activities in the borough.
For young mums and mums-to-be we run parenting skills programmes and workshops and offer support, information and the opportunity for accredited learning. Our crèche means mums can safely leave their children to attend our programmes.
We run accredited informal education programmes to help girls and women gain skills they may not have achieved at school and to help them progress to work or training. In a relaxed atmosphere they learn literacy, numeracy, IT and computer training, money management and practical life skills.
At our drop-in sessions women can talk in confidence with a project worker. At group sessions, women learn about parenting, healthy eating, diet and exercise, safe sex and sexual health, alcohol and drugs. We run workshops in schools on sex and relationships and the reality of teenage pregnancy. We offer support and personal development to women who have been involved in crime.
We offer peer support and friendship; volunteering and campaigning; have fun and build confidence using a wide range of activities, including arts and crafts. We offer information, guidance and encouragement for girls and women to stay in education or go on to further training.
In the past 12 months we have had direct and regular contact with 450 girls and women.
Creche
The creche at our Northampton centre is open from 9.30am to 3pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Places should be booked in advance.

who we help

Rosie says: "All those years ago I was very timid. My home life had been dominated by sexual abuse and violence, it was normal to me."
