what we do
Platform 51 London West
Platform 51 London West is based in Ealing but we work at community centres, youth clubs and schools throughout West London including Acton, Northolt, Southall and Harrow. Platform 51 London West is the only centre in the borough to offer such a wide range of activities for women-only.
For young mums and mums-to-be we run parenting skills workshops and offer support, information and the opportunity for accredited learning. We run nationally recognised accredited informal education programmes. In a relaxed atmosphere we help girls and women learn useful life skills as well as practical skills such as IT, money management and tenancy training.
Many girls and women find the transition between primary and secondary school, college, training or the outside world extremely difficult; and without support they drop out. We offer information, guidance and encouragement for them to stay in education or go on to further training.
We run group sessions in schools and community venues where women learn about healthy eating, diet and exercise, safe sex and sexual health, alcohol and drugs, and get the support and encouragement they need to stop smoking.
We offer peer support and friendship; volunteering and campaigning; after-school clubs; we work with women offenders; give information and support about education, training, skills and jobs; we build confidence and using a wide range of activities including residentials, and have group sessions on a huge range of subjects.
In the last 12 months we worked with 649 young women; more than 450 of them received an accreditation or recorded outcome as a direct result of coming to Platform 51 London West.
