Platform 51 London East
Platform 51 London East currently runs groups for young women aged between 13 and 25 as part of the BIG participation project.
We run an after school/college group for young women to discuss and take action on issues that are important to them. Topics covered include: equality, politics, the media, body image, relationships and sexual health.
We also run accredited courses to enhance personal and social development, courses such as ‘understanding own response to body image’ and ‘peer mentoring’.
We have a Platform 51 London East steering group. Being part of the steering group allows young women to learn and use leadership skills to influence others and to get involved in decision making. Steering group members lead the way in campaigning and representing Platform 51 at local and national events.
Participation workers attend events in the local area to network and promote Platform 51 as well as meet girls and women who may wish to attend or volunteer.

who we help

Diane suffered repeated traumas throughout her life: bereavement, violence, depression. She used alcohol to blot it all out and was sent to prison. But now she feels "awesome."
