what we do
Platform 51 Hull
Platform 51 Hull is based at Preston Road Women’s centre. Our services are designed to change the lives of young women by raising their aspirations and helping them make informed decisions.
Peer support is vital for young women that have lost confidence. Our activities and events such as our youth club, community projects and cookery classes encourage young women to interact and make friends.
The young women work with the local police force to help the local community. The girls run their own gardening service for local residents and do litter picking to keep the local area clean and tidy.
We run accredited informal education programmes to help girls and women gain skills they may not have achieved through school and help them to progress to work or training. We are currently run the following accredited courses: body beautiful, sexual health awareness, peer mentoring and better babysitting.
We have a steering group that produces their own monthly magazine that focuses on a different topic each month, for example bullying. We also attend youth parliament events where the girls can have their say on a national level.
We encourage everyone to take part, speak up, make decisions, share their opinions and get involved.
