Platform 51 Doncaster
Platform 51 Doncaster is a lively multi-cultural community centre in the heart of the city. It offers a huge range of services for girls and women under one roof and throughout the borough of Doncaster. The centre works collaboratively with partner organisations and operates in a particularly deprived area, both socially and economically. It is the only centre in the area just for girls and women.
We welcome all girls and women and offer to meet their specific needs regardless of age, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, disability or background. Our female-only services support girls and women to raise their self-esteem and aspirations by offering them opportunities and informed choices.
Our informal programmes take place in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and are about things that matter to women in today’s society. Our constantly evolving services include: one-to-one support, counselling, group work, accredited learning programmes and English as a second language courses. We run specialist programmes for women with learning disabilities, for offenders and those at risk of offending, and for women from international backgrounds.
We have a vibrant crèche where innovative activities are offered to children while their mums take part in our programmes. At our low-cost community cafe girls and women meet and make friends.
In the last 12 months we have worked with more than 2,000 girls and women. Of these 248 women received an accreditation; 124 were women with learning disabilities and 835 girls said they had improved mental health as a result of coming to Platform 51.
