Platform 51 Bilston

wolverhampton, bilston, young woman, girl, ywca, bmePlatform 51 Bilston is a comfortable and safe place for girls and women. We run a wide range of activities and programmes, including drop-in sessions where girls and women can talk in confidence to a project worker about health, debt, relationships, education, parenting, domestic violence or confidence.

For those under 18, we offer sessions where girls can take part in a range of positive activities, get information and support, talk about anything that might be troubling them, make new friends and try new things. Women over 18 can get support and advice about health, drugs, housing and a range of other matters. Practical help like this is especially effective for women at risk of re-offending.

At our sexual health sessions a nurse offers support on pregnancy and STI prevention, testing and advice.

We work with refugees and asylum seekers to help them settle in to their new life in the UK and come to terms with what has happened to bring them here. We offer practical advice, information and English as a second language classes.

We encourage all girls and women to take part and contribute to the centre and the community. Our accredited education programmes are run informally and help girls and women to understand themselves and learn useful life skills. We give information about education, training, skills and jobs. In the past 12 months we have had regular contact with more than 500 girls and young women.

We work closely with local youth services, schools and the multi-agency support team. To support women at risk of re-offending we work with the probation service. Our strong relationship with the Local Neighbourhood team means we have been able to work with residents and local police, councillors, MPs and art galleries.

We have an IT suite and rooms to hire.
