I had no self-esteem or confidence when I first started coming to Platform 51.

I found school difficult. I was bullied because I have epilepsy. The bullies would try to trigger my seizures on purpose. I was also sent home sick a lot. My school work fell behind.

I went to the teachers for help but they weren’t very supportive. One of them made me feel like I was to blame for being bullied. I felt really alone.

Platform 51 gave me lots of help and support when I most needed it. They were there through some big life-changing experiences such as surgery for my epilepsy.

With their help I started to regain my confidence. I’ve taken part in lots of different courses and got a City & Guilds certificate. I’ve developed great skills which will help me in the future.

I’m also involved in peer support, helping other girls like me who have been through tough times. I get the chance to really make a difference in the community. I recently helped to make a DVD on alcohol and drugs in relationships which we’re hoping to show in youth clubs in the local area.

At the moment I’m looking for work but finding it hard. Platform 51 are really supporting me. Eventually I’d like to work for the merchant navy.
