A gift in your will allows us to provide vital services such as counselling and training, giving girls and women support for as long as they need it. It means we can give women a brighter future to look forward to.

Make a lasting difference to the lives of girls and women with a gift in your will

If you need to make a will, talk to a solicitor. Their professional advice will give you peace of mind that your wishes will be carried out. You may find it helpful in choosing a solicitor to visit The Law Society.

There are several ways you can leave a legacy to Platform 51:

Residuary gift: A share of your estate once all other gifts, debts, and other expenses have been paid, usually expressed as a percentage.

Pecuniary gift: A specific sum of money. Bear in mind that the value of a pecuniary gift may reduce as a result of inflation. For example, £5,000 will be worth less in ten years’ time than it is today.

Sample wordings for gifts to Platform 51

If you do include a gift to Platform 51 in your will, thank you. You may wish to copy the sample wordings provided below. The correct wording is crucial in any will, so as well as including our operating name ‘Platform 51’, please also make sure you use our full legal name ‘YWCA England & Wales’ and registered charity number 217868.

Residuary legacy:

I leave free of tax to Platform 51, the operating name of YWCA England & Wales of New Barclay House, 234 Botley Road, Oxford, OX2 OHP, Charity Registration Number 217868 (proportion of residue to be completed) for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors. If before my death (or after it but before my Trustees have given effect to the gift) YWCA England & Wales has changed its legal name or amalgamated with another body or transferred its assets to another body, my Trustees shall give effect to the gift as if it were a gift to the body in its changed name or to the body which results from the amalgamation or to which the assets have been transferred.

Pecuniary legacy:

I leave free of tax to Platform 51, the operating name of YWCA England & Wales of Clarendon House, 52 Cornmarket Street, Oxford OX1 3EJ, Charity Registration Number 217868, the sum of £(to be completed) (amount in words) for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors. If before my death (or after it but before my Trustees have given effect to the gift) YWCA England & Wales has changed its legal name or amalgamated with another body or transferred its assets to another body, my Trustees shall give effect to the gift as if it were a gift to the body in its changed name or to the body which results from the amalgamation or to which the assets have been transferred.

Changing your will to support Platform 51

If you already have a will, and would now like to include a gift to Platform 51, this can be done using a codicil. A codicil does not change the terms of your current will, it simply adds a new instruction. You may wish to use this codicil form.

Please consult your solicitor or advisor before completing the codicil form. It’s important to remember the following necessary steps: sign and date the document, have it witnessed by two people just like your will, keep the codicil with your current will in a safe place and give a copy of the will and codicil to your executor or other trusted friend with a note indicating where the original is held.
