binge drinking conference

more information

YWCA is very concerned about the increase in the number of reports in the media about young women drinking alcohol and getting out of control. What's going on and what can we do?

Our conference will consider what can be done to tackle the problem of young women binge drinking. Speakers who are leaders in their field and delegates with a wide range of expertise will combine their extensive experience and come up with solutions to present to Ministers.

The conference aims to:

  • engage the widest possible audience to find solutions to this major problem in our society
  • provide up-to-date information on the current situation by launching a report containing the results of YWCA research into why young women binge drink and how well they understand the risks
  • produce practical solutions that the Government can implement
  • improve positive networking between people interested in this worrying subject

Who should attend?

YWCA is inviting large number of potentially interested parties to the conference. One of the reasons that previous initiatives to tackle binge drinking may have not worked is because those who have an interest in finding solutions have not been fully involved.

Consequently, about 10% of the audience will be young women who attend YWCA centres. Their voices, opinions and experiences will help shape discussions and influence the results.

Lawmakers and enforcers; the prison and probation service; social workers and teachers; parents and grandparents; drinks manufacturers and distributers; media and advertising; alcohol support groups and charities; women’ organisations; the NHS and many, many more are all being invited.
