Crime and violence: abuse
My step-dad abused me
by Jasmine
I want a job but my rent would go up
My step-dad mentally, physically and sexually abused me. He used to hit me, do stuff to me and mess with my head. I used to cry all the time. My school called social services but all they did was give him a warning. I ran away from home and eventually social services did get involved and moved me to a housing project. I'm staying in a hostel now and it feels like a prison. I really want to get a job but I can't because it will make my rent more expensive which I can't afford. But I am more confident now. I feel better about speaking to people.
I'd say to other young people who are being abused just get out of there and move on with your life.

- Hi Jasmine I really feel for your situation but i do want to let you know that their are people out there that can help. It must be really difficult to trust people when it felt like no one really helped you but their are organisations out there that can help you fight for your rights - I dont know where you are in the country but here are a few.
Womens Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Center
Rape Crisis
Barnadoes
and even your Local MP...
Their are also grants available for care leavers and its really important that you find out all you are entitled to as you can get emergency grants etc.
