Platform 51 has joined Daycare Trust, NUS, Fawcett Society and Nasma in writing an open letter to Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education, in opposition to Government plans to make cuts to the successful Care to Learn programme.
The government is proposing to limit support to parents who are 18 and under when they start a course of education and training, leaving the over-19s to apply for Discretionary Learner Support to help with childcare costs.
These changes would hit women hardest: 99 per cent of Care to Learn recipients are young mothers. Women have already taken a disproportionate share of wider funding cuts and this must not continue.
